Photo Art Leipzig 2011 vs 2021
The theme of time has always fascinated me in my photographic work. With my camera, I have the ability to drastically change the perception of time by freezing it, extending it, accelerating it, or slowing it down. Already in my first photographic art series "Leipzig - Day to Night" in 2011, I showed how a place changes depending on time. Last year, I revisited this concept and reinterpreted it.
Photographic Art 2011: Leipzig - Day to Night
10 years ago, my idea was to capture the change of daylight in one image. To do this, I set up my camera in various locations in Leipzig for several hours to capture the transition from the golden afternoon light through the blue evening hour into the dark night. Each of these lighting moods has its own charm. It dramatically changes the feeling of the respective location. However, since most people do not take the time to witness this change, I merged the different times of day into one image. In a progression from day to night, the static motif changes.
The photographic art series about Leipzig was exhibited in various locations in Leipzig over several years and found many enthusiasts. The 10 images of the series were laminated under acrylic glass on aluminum Dibond in a size between 120cm and 240cm and sold as a limited edition to many Leipzig enthusiasts. You can find more motifs in my Photographic Art portfolio.
Photographic Art 2021: 24h - Augustusplatz Leipzig
At the beginning of last year, an idea about the theme of changing times sprouted in me again. Over the past years, I have photographed a lot of architecture at different times of the day and enjoyed every moment of it. From the cold end of the night, just before the first rays of sunshine breathe life back into the day, to the magnificent play of colors of the pink clouds at the end of a glorious day, we should celebrate every moment that we are allowed to experience mindfully. Since, experience has shown, not every day is so beautiful and not every office/hotel room or entrance has a beautiful view, my idea was to create a window into a perfect day.
For the photographic art project titled LUXmotus, I use my camera to take pictures for 24 hours at various locations in Germany. Afterwards, I search through hundreds of images and edit selected motifs into an interesting staging. A specially developed controller transmits the most impressive images of each time of day to televisions, monitors, or projectors of my customers.
One of the photographic art motifs is again about Augustusplatz in Leipzig. With the difference of a slightly elevated shooting location and a somewhat narrower image section, the image "24h - Augustusplatz Leipzig" again shows the symmetrical structure of the promenade between the Gewandhaus and the Opera. This time, however, the times of day do not merge into one image, but are presented depending on the position of the sun. In this case, the motif was a commissioned work for the interior design of a hotel. As if through a real window, the guests of the Radisson Blu Hotels Leipzig can now enjoy the view from the Opera to Augustusplatz during breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You can find out more about my LUXmotus project on the associated project page.
Reinterpreting the same photographic art motif after 10 years was an exciting challenge for me. My passion for capturing the transformation of time in architectural photography remains and continues to reveal itself from a new perspective. In this context, I encourage you to explore my project “City in Motion”. In the time-lapse video, hours fly by in seconds. You can also acquire individual video sequences for your corporate communications. Please feel free to contact me about this.
