Teaser: Day of Architecture 2020
On June 27 and 28, 2020, the most exciting architectural projects in Saxony will open their doors. Architects, landscape architects, interior designers and urban planners from the Saxony Chamber of Architects are inviting visitors to take personal tours of their projects under the motto "Ressource Architektur".
With over 60 properties and open offices, you can experience a wide range of new buildings, conversions, extensions and renovations. Architects and builders invite visitors to exchange ideas with the aim of enabling them to truly experience the value of architecture. It is not only the major cities of Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz that have a diverse architectural program to offer. In Arnsdorf, for example, you can see a zero-energy sports hall. Freiberg opens the very exciting Schlossplatzquartier of the TU Freiberg and in Obergurig you can explore the historic blacksmith's workshop. The weekend thus offers a varied program to make the most of the beautiful weather in the Free State.

As an architectural photographer, it is very important to me to convey a feeling for high-quality architecture to my fellow human beings. That is why I am supporting the Saxony Chamber of Architects during the Day of Architecture with press photos from the perspective of an architectural photographer. So I can already give you an exclusive insight into one of the objects to be presented:
The Freiberger Platz swimming complex in Dresden is a wonderful example of the preservation of past building culture. Architect Michael Dähne has modernized and expanded the swimming hall over the last 10 years with the consortium SSK Code Unique Architekten and Dähne Architekten. The architects breathed new life into the complex, which was built in 1969 and has a beautiful suspended roof construction. The materials, structures and colors in the interior refer to the history of the building, but at the same time appear very clean and contemporary.
In addition to renovating the indoor swimming pool in the style of post-war architecture, the team of architects also built a new indoor swimming pool with a 50m pool for national competitions. The new foyer, the gardens and sauna facilities and the diving hall are all deliberately subordinate to the existing architecture, creating a homogeneous overall picture. A great appetizer for the Day of Architecture.
Architecture enthusiasts can find the entire program on the website of the Saxony Chamber of Architects. In some buildings, only a limited number of interested parties can be welcomed and registration is sometimes required in advance.
